“Hi, I’m a singer songwriter” is probably the most common phrase heard by music industry reps so you can understand why they choose not to communicate directly with artists.
Music industry reps gets hundreds of emails, calls and post from singer/songwriters daily, and most, if not all of it gets put straight in the trash. A London recording studio called http://www.applebeam.co.uk gets an average of 40 emails a day, a top A&R might recieve 400! So the question is, how do we get our songs into the right hands?
“Song writing is a gift to those that can do it”
The world is full of talented individuals, but only a few have had the correct guidance and knowledge they need to succeed.
Music business representatives rarely communicate with artists directly but they will communicate with reputable managers and respected pitching businesses.
“Song writing success depends on the right approach!”
A&R people work directly for the label, they are the people you are trying to reach. A&R decide who’s hot and who’s not … so reaching them is imperative.
Unknown to many singer/songwriters, there are companies that do all the hard work for you, like http://www.songpitchpro.com/ or http://www.taxi.com/
By doing the hard work for you I mean, getting in contact with A&R personnel in a direct and responsible way, hence promoting your music directly. A&R people prefer to communicate with song writing companies rather than direct with the artist.
Song writing tools
Going to companies like the above-mentioned increases your chances of getting noticed dramatically, and can be thought of as a tool for song writing success. Not only are you promoting your music, but now you have a team of music professionals pitching your music to important record companies all over the world.
The process isn’t rocket science, you as a songwriter joins as a member and upload the tracks needing promotion. It’s a great and rewarding system, but with most great and rewarding systems it takes a while for results. Miracles don’t happen overnight remember to be patience and to never give up and you will achieve success.
Many singer songwriters start off by having a publishing deal as it opens many doors and gets them known in the musician circle. Once a songwriter has a publishing deal, the record labels are frequently more interested because they know that even if their ‘product’ doesn’t succeed as an artist they can still recoup their money through the artists song writing.
So as we come to the finale of this article we ask the question, how do we pitch our songs in the overflowing pool of music?
The answer is short and sweet … consistent and repeated promotion. Whether you do it or you pay someone else to do it, it’s gotta be done!
Good luck to all you dream chasers.
